Murphy’s Quiz on 11.8.2026

Not quite as hot yesterday in Murphy’s Law and not quite as many teams as usual. Some of the regulars are spending their summer holidays in other regions or other countries or on the other side of the globe…

One of them, James Farrell, had sent us greetings from Sydney and a super duper beer question: ‚How many Australian residents identified themselves as having Irish ancestry at the 2021 Australian census?‘

I had honestly tried to make the questions a bit easier this time and in the first half of the quiz it seemed to work… Drunken Quizzers took the lead with 6 points in Geography (of course 😊) and 5 points in Film&TV. In the next two rounds, Science&Nature and Music, it was 101s and Promotion Square’s turn to score 11 points. 👏👏👏

At half-time 5 teams (!) were in joint first position: Adequate Tools, Drunken Quizzers, 101s, Kackspechte and Promotion Square.

And then the average score dropped drastically, with a couple of zero rounds in Art&Literature, History and especially in my special round ‚Sports and Games Time Travel‘ 🙈. The lego question was alright, but not many were familiar with or had heard of the ancient Greek stadion run or the American sport octopus wrestling…

The two teams that mastered those last 4 rounds best were the two teams that also came first and second in last week’s quiz: Kackspechte (with an almost completely different team than the one that won last week!) and Emmy. Congratulations to both teams! 🤩🤩🤩

Neither Mark nor Bernd knew the answer to the music question, so there is bit of money left in the jackpot for next week’s quiz, the last one before the summer break, which will be hosted by bab and Tessie! 😍

Top 5:

1 – Kackspechte:  35/48

2 – Emmy:  34/48

3 – 101s/Drunken Quizzers:  32/48

5 – Adequate Tools/Promotion Square:  29/48

Murphy’s Quiz on Tuesday 4.8.2026

18 teams braved the sweltering heat yesterday in Murphy’s Law and tried to come up with correct answers for my 48 quiz questions. That did not always work so well, as the rather modest final results show…😬

No 11 or 12 points were scored in any double round and only a couple of 10 points: for Emmy in sports and music, for Kackspechte in history and film&tv.

In the last two rounds, geography and miscellaneous, some great teams from Murphy’s own ‚youth academy‘ like Adequate Tools and Chicken Attack really struggled with the questions about the Malabar coast, Algeria,  native Americans and rollercoasters…

The two leading teams, however, held on to their respective first and second position: Kackspechte and Emmy. Peter and Bernd then stepped forward for the bonus question. They both knew the answer (!), which meant that the winners, Kackspechte (ft. Manfred and Melanie), took all the prize money 💰! Congratulations, folks!

Emmy more than earned their whiskys for second place, 101s won the pitcher of beer and Erbsenzähler the booby prize.

Top 5:

1 – Kackspechte:  34/48

2 – Emmy:  33/48

3 – 101s/Promotion Square:  32/48

5 – Drunken Quizzers:  29/48

Murphy’s Quiz on Tuesday 28.7.2026

On Tuesday evening quizmasters bab and Alex presented Erlangen’s finest quizzers with a bunch of very challenging questions indeed: Dublin’s Grafton Street, ’sea apples‘, Erich Honecker and the Exploited all featured in the quiz.

There was one team that seemed to absolutely love the questions, as they managed a final score of 41 out of 48 points, winning the quiz by 9 points!!! They had not booked a victory since the Murphy’s Quiz on 7th July, and they were obviously determined to change that and take home half of the prize money. Congratulations, Promotion Square! 🤩🤩🤩

Bernd (Emmy) answered the bonus question and won one quarter of the money for his team, Soko Guinness came closest to the answer to the beer question: ‚In 1951 what did a pint of Guinness cost?‘ Answer: 6.3 Cent or 0.063€

How times have changed… 😬

Top 5:

1 – Promotion Square:  41/48

2 – Emmy/Kackspechte:  32/48

4 – Drunken Quizzers:  30/48

5 – Wombats:  29/48

Top 5:

1 – Fränggisch Dynamite:  46/60

2 – Wir von Nebenan:  45/60

3 – Biggus Diggus/Little Quiz Sunshine:  39/60

5 – Just 4 Fun:  38/60

Top 5:

1 – Shmu Orchestra:  49/60

2 – Promotion Square:  48/60

3 – Neuland:  46/60

4 – Biggus Diggus:  44/60

5 – Wir von Nebenan:  43/60
